DWP to waste £217k on foodbank research – but is it just a ploy to appease the UN?

So foodbanks have been appearing in the news almost daily of late. Now Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey has announced the Department for Work and pensions – DWP are going to waste £217,000 on researching IF their policies have contributed to the rise in foodbank use. As if they don’t already know the answer.

Report warns of Domestic Abuse risk posed by Universal Credit but does it go far enough? Plus Male victims get no mention

A report by Work and Pensions Committee has warned that the way Universal Credit is paid per household means abusers could take control of the entire budget, leaving vulnerable victims and their children dependent on an abusive partner to survive. Whilst it’s as start I don’t think that this report goes far enough.

Judge accuses DWP of trying to hide compensation settlement made to discriminated men

“You are the government, and we should know what you are doing and what you are spending.” This is what High Court Judge Justice Lewis said when ordering the Department for Work and Pensions  – DWP to disclose details of a compensation settlement made to two men the High Court ruled were unlawfully discriminated against because of their disability.

A win for equality as Tesco and Shell agree to improve help for disabled drivers at the pump

I can confirm that both Shell and Tesco have confirmed that they are going to work to improve the assistance available to disabled drivers at their petrol stations. A major improvement planned is to ensure that all their filling stations are signed up to the FuelService Scheme
